The Boca Raton Resort & Club has for years enjoyed an illustrious golfing heritage. Now, with a $6.5 million reconstruction of the property's Resort Course, they are reinforcing that heritage.

Overseen by acclaimed golf designer Gene Bates, the project will entail a comprehensive redesign and reconfiguration of each hole of this 18-hole championship course. This project is currently underway, with a scheduled completion date of December 15, 1997.

The new Resort Course will be a par 71, playing 6,150 yards from the back of the tees.
The reconstruction is an exciting event for The Boca, which will now offer a "metamorphosis of the golfing experience" for all guests, according to Michael Glennie, president of the multifaceted Resort and Club.

The course will undergo many significant changes, including the addition of extensive water features and a uniquely interesting variety of elevation changes.

Water will come into play throughout most of the course with lakes increasing from three acres to 12 acres. Signature to the new Resort course will be a central elevation of more than 30 feet (one of the highest natural points in Boca Raton) and a scenic island green completing the course will be bordered by 15 new exclusive homesites - Mizner Lake Estates.

Another of the course's noted highlights will be a custom-designed water feature created by Hugh Hughes of Themed Environment Company. Acclaimed for his spectacular creations, Hughes built the magnificent water features at Steve Wynn's Shadow Creek Golf Club.

The new design of the Resort Course maintains the tradition of the original with many of the tees and bunkers fashioned from the historic first course.

However, the fairways and greens have been transformed to a higher level of play, requiring golfers to display finesse in the true Scottish tradition of the game.

According to Gene Bates, course designer overseeing the renovations, "Each hole will offer four sets of tees, providing a well-rounded resort golf experience. The back set will present an excellent difficulty for seasoned golfers with the others more friendly to novices of varied levels. In addition, the Resort Course will be marvelously landscaped and its sculpting will be characteristically crisp and clean."
